Traveling to Guatemala

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I just got back from my trip to Guatemala. Guatemala is a Beautiful Country that is rich with culture, Volcanoes and colorful cities.

Here are some useful things to know before traveling to Guatemala, based on my observations from my trip.

Bring Snacks on the plane

We traveled from Washington DC to IAH to GUA

Our plane took off at 5:45AM and we were not hungry at all. I made sure to pack some Gogo Squeeze applesauce and RX bars. We landed in IAH at 9 AM and at that point we were starving and those snacks came in handy.

Upgrade if it’s a good price

Bub and I checked into our flight 24 hours before our flight was set to take off. During the check-in process, it asked if we wanted to upgrade to $65 per person for one leg of the flight. We decided to upgrade and it was the best decision we made. If you have 1 leg of first class your bags fly priority and it includes 2 checked bags. This really helped because they charge 50 for checked bags round trip. We got Champagne, unlimited alcoholic drinks, and a full lunch.

Do not drink tap Water

Every time I travel to Guatemala I always make sure to make a pit stop at a grocery store or Walmart. I have gotten sick drinking their bottled water so I always make sure to buy a pack of Evian water or Fiji.

Shop for Souvenirs at Local Markets

When visiting Guatemala we always make sure to get souvenirs at the  Mercado Central Located in Guatemala City. The central market in Guatemala is filled with vendors selling Tablecloths, bags, wood carved items and lots more. I was able to get table cloths and matching place mats for my house for about 30 USD. Also make sure you carry money in your pocket instead of a purse due to a lot of pick pockets in the area.

Here is a picture of my aunt and I purchasing our tablecloths.

I will be updating this post as needed
